A dated family home was renovated into a modern, light-filled home that respects its original character.
This renovation involved the complete transformation of a dated and impractical family home into a modern, light-filled home. The owners wished for a house that was both timeless and practical, with respect for its original character.
The home had a strong foundation but suffered from dark interiors caused by small windows and closed-off spaces. The large attic, with its impressive wooden beams, remained unused. Moreover, the property did not meet current energy standards: most of the windows were still single glazed and the insulation was inadequate throughout.
During the structural works, several walls were removed to create an open living space. The roof and walls were fully insulated and new windows with high-performance glazing were installed. The attic was converted into a luxurious master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, retaining the original wooden roof trusses.
The finishing was carried out with high-quality, durable materials, including a light-toned parquet floor, steel doors with glass panels and FSC-certified wood. In the living room, the light parquet floor and minimalist furniture create a sense of calm, the kitchen was given black cabinets with wooden accents, and the hall was fitted with a natural stone floor that contrasts with the wooden floors. In the bathroom stands a freestanding bath beneath a skylight.
