A worn-out terraced house in the heart of Merelbeke was completely transformed into a light-filled, modern home while preserving its authentic elements.
In the heart of Merelbeke stood a terraced house that was ready for a complete metamorphosis. The house was worn out, had very few insulating qualities and could hardly be called cosy. The owners had long dreamed of a brighter, more modern terraced home that still kept a few authentic elements.
Before starting the renovation, Borgwal Renovaties carried out a thorough analysis of the house. The layout needed to be more efficient, the natural light better used and the new materials had to radiate greater durability and elegance. In close consultation with the clients, a vision emerged that combines modern design and comfort with a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
One of the biggest challenges was opening up certain rooms without affecting the structure. The former closed kitchen became an open living space with a direct connection to the dining room and the living room. The light-filled kitchen grew into the beating heart of the home, with white-lacquered and wooden front panels, black worktops, a brass tap and large sliding doors onto the terrace.
The bathrooms underwent a complete transformation, with walk-in showers featuring rain showers, floating washbasins and a bathtub, where beige and wood tones combined with black fittings create a spa-like atmosphere. The bedrooms were designed as contemporary oases of calm, with exposed wooden beams and natural materials.
The outdoor space was also tackled in full: a tiled terrace accessible through large sliding doors and a redesigned garden with low-maintenance planting. Thanks to realistic planning, clear budgeting and complete peace of mind, the owners experienced a worry-free renovation from start to finish.
