Semi-detached Baaigem

An ageing semi-detached house in Baaigem was reshaped into two contemporary, fully fledged homes with modern comfort and sustainable engineering.

In Baaigem, Borgwal Renovaties reshaped an ageing semi-detached house into a contemporary two-family home. The challenge lay in creating two fully fledged homes while preserving aesthetics, privacy and spacious modern comfort. The result is a complete renovation that brings charm and functionality together in a timeless whole, perfectly attuned to the needs of today.

The white rendered façade contrasts subtly with the dark joinery and black roof tiles, fresh and modern without breaking from the rural character of the surroundings. At the rear, large sliding windows open up the view onto the garden, while timber accents on the façade lend a warm touch to the clean play of lines.

Each of the two homes unfolds from a spacious, light-filled entrance hall, in a calming palette of white paintwork, light grey floors and natural wood. The living spaces follow the principle of open living, where kitchen, dining area and seating area flow harmoniously into one another and large new windows draw the outside light in.

The fully rebuilt kitchens form the heart of each home, with wooden worktops, handleless white cabinets and open wall shelving. The bedrooms are spread across the upper floor and the attic, and the bathrooms combine walk-in showers, wooden vanity units and mirror cabinets into a genuine hotel feel.

The renovation is built to last. Both homes were given high-performance insulation, high-efficiency glazing and energy-saving systems, while the entire electrical installation, the plumbing and the heating were renewed. Each home also has its own clearly defined garden, designed with privacy in mind.
